I just finished watching this week's episode.

This is the episode with the plus-size models.

It is also the episode where Chandler, the allegedly intelligent member of the cast, attacked Alana for apparently using "vindicate" incorrectly. Alana said that she wanted to "vindicate" herself. Chandler immediately challenged Alan and said that using the word "vindicate" means that she is implying she has already done something wrong. "What have you done?" he asks. She responds that she is a plus-size model. Chandler, clearly enjoying his allegedly superior knowledge of the English language, says that this "makes no sense at all" because, in order to use the word "vindicate" you must already have committed a crime. Clearly shocked that anyone would disagree with his lexical superiority, Chandler proceeds to express his exasperation that anyone would think he was the instigator of this interactions.

Chandler, I'm sorry to disappoint you but this encounter merely displays both your insecurities and your inability to appreciate perspectives other than your own. With respect to insecurities, the fact that you were so hostile to the plus-size models speaks for itself and no further argument is necessary. The more interesting issue is the controversy over the use of the word "vindicate". To anyone with a grade 5 understanding of human psychology, it should have been painfully obvious that Alana's use of the word "vindicate" simply reflected her lived experience that the fact of being a plus-size model is itself perceived by the mainstream fashion industry as being a crime. Janice's hostility to the plus-size models, not to mention the irrational hostility displayed by Chandler, prove my point. At the end of an episode in which the plus-size models were demonized as a threat to Janice's very existence, Chandler's failure to grasp the sense in which "vindicate" was used demonstrates not intelligence, but a mechanical understanding of mere facts under the direction of a fundamentally insecure mind.

Shame on you. One who feels the need to use an apparent advantage to irrationally and shamefully put down others is surely not wise, but a child.
