http://www.nomorecatodor.com/You need to take him to the vet. If he's old and peeing that means there is a medical problem that he is trying to tell you about.

OOOH, I have had that problem.....if cat is old, probably has bladder crystals, which are painful. and can be taken care of with meds from the vet, after a blood test.
Or, in old cats, kidney failure is common, but cats are tough and they can live on with it, for a long time before we humans catch on they are sick, not just peeing outside the litter box.
But, as far as urine smell from a cat......nothing quite like it.....is there.
I went to Petco, and they have a product that is in white bottle with red letters, and comes in gallon sizes, or quart sizes with a sprayer.
I forget the name, but all Petco people know what it is when you say "I need that cleaner for cat urine" and they will point you in right direction.
Its the best, but I am glad to see that someone else named another product, because its always good to have Options!!
anyway, if your cat departs, and the carpet is old anyways, like mine was, I pulled up the carpeting and padding and found hardwood floors underneath!! So I went with that, but still had to wash the floor a few times to get cat odor out. Plus, if the cat urine is on cement floor, that is another situation. I have plans for that, from one of the channels on tv that deals with remodeling etc.
You have to use an "encapsolating cleaner" on the entire floor, painting it on with a paintbrush, and hit the walls half way up too, for cat spray marks. Then, put a plastic tarp over the entire floor, making sure its completely covered for twenty four hours. The next day, it should be without cat smell. On damp days, it might come up again, and then do it again, making sure you havent missed any spots on walls, or shelves etc with a blue light body fluid light. And, you must make sure that you are using encapsolating cleaner from the get go. And...that there arent any cat ickies hiding somewhere.
Once the floor is cleaned, then you paint the cement floor with paint, a kind that will not let anything up from the cement. I forget the name, but a paint store would know what paints stop any dampness from coming throught cement/basement floors.
Hope its not that bad! Hope the Petco product will work on carpeting. And remember, its the padding that has most of the urine in it....so if you can pull back the carpeting to padding, that would be helpful, if not, I would soak the smelly spots.
Oh, and carpeting and floor cleaners, that use dry method on your carpeting, also have a cat urine cleaner you can pay a little extra for, when they are cleaning your carpets, for a normal cleaning.
Wow, can you see I have gone thru this before??? hahaha
oh, now I have a dog....no more cats, just cant deal with litter and missing the litter box......good luck to you!!! and I hope you kitty cat is ok, but go to vet and maybe all he needs is pills. My dog is on them, so her bladder wont spaz. Same as detrol they give to older people, to stop them from wetting their pants or bed.

Urine Gone is also supposed to help. I've never tried it but I may have to. I have a male kitten who is not fixed and we all know how that goes.....
