You'd think the host of a show like this would be in a little better shape herself... you know for like, to get them more determined to look like that. I mean she looks like she could be a contestant. I do look forward to the show tho!=]

Perhaps she was chosen so as not to intimidate the contestants?

That makes sense, however, when I started working out a few months ago I didn't bother looking at pictures of people who were still heavier than my goal. I just figured they'd find someone to motivate the contestants a little more.

I'm sure they filled that role in the trainers, those will of course be the fit & buff type.

I'm pretty sure they chose her because she played the lead in Hairspray on Broadway, hence the whole "chubby dancer" idea. She was also on Dancing with the Stars.

Marissa Jaret Winokur is a Tony-award winning actress who, six nights a week, danced her a** off in a Broadway show. None of the contestants is going to end up looking like one of the dancers on "So You Think You Can Dance," but they CAN become more fit and, if they're lucky, end up looking more like Ms. Winokur.

I agree. I believe the reason the host was chosen was just that...motivation. She worked her a** off in the roles she has played and now she is helping others to dance their a**es off. Speaking of that, I need to dance this a** off. How do I get on this show??

I think she was a good choice. She can move, she is funny, she is a cancer survivor, she is a really good actress and she looks great.

I think the host is a GREAT choice ( even better after reading about her on this board) but what I don't get is:

WHY OH WHY do they HAVE to squeeze her into such a tight CORSET or girdle at her waist?????????? She is obviously a big girl ( like me) and I just don't get why they have her laced up in such a fashion. I'm sure she has a real waist of her own and with the corset on her waist looks like she is actually disfigured and unable to breathe. I recognize the look from when I dress up for Renaissance Faire. Gosh let her be natural with SPANX at the max, not cinched in and unable to sit down. Let he be her beautiful, brave, hardworking HUMAN self who ever dressed her!!

The whole purpose of the show is to show reality, well do it!

WHo cares if she is plus size herself. I think she is hot lol. And not everyone can be a size 5 no matter how hard they try. I wish people would open there eyes and see that some people have many reasons they are not a size 5. They should not be judged for it.

But anyways she is great and a huge inspiration even is she is not a size 5 either.

I think the hostess was a perfect choice. It's nice to see someone who isn't a stick figure on TV. She's beautiful just the way she is, and I think that will make the contestants feel better about themselves, too. It shows that you can be big and still be beautiful and a good dancer. Now, if they would just remove the elimination process, it would be the perfect show.

I agree with the choice of clothes for her, they DO NOT fit!!! Her hair is huge and they make her waist look so small, I fear her ribs are being crushed with that corset!! To me it looks like she's having a hard time holding herself up, lol.

i think the host is the best person fit for the job. shes very confident and thats the key, CONFIDENCE. plus..i dont think a "stick figure" would be a good idea. some people dont wanna b a stick figure. they might wanna lose weight, but no be STICK SKINNY.

I can also see why her body type may have been chosen. However, her voice is annoying. I have to mute it so I don't have to listen to her(it is squeaky). So I read the subtitles instead. Gotta love subtitles. She is accomplished but her voice is still annoying and does not sound the least bit of sincere. I hope when the next season comes around, that they have someone who sounds tons better than Marissa.

Marissa is the perfect candidate for this show, because she basically danced her a** off in real life on "Dancing with the Stars." She lost a ton of weight and made it all the way to the semi-finals. She is definitely an inspiration to all of the contestants on the show. You go, girl!!!

I like her and the whole idea of the show is to be more accepting of people, regardless of their weight. Not sure why everybody is hatin' on her just because she isn't a size zero.

I love this show, but I'm not thrilled with Marissa, the host. I see why she was given the job, but she seems too rehearsed or rigid in her talking, not relaxed and friendly. Her hair is ridiculous. Her dresses are too tight. Her heels are too high. And I hate that look she gets when she raises one eyebrow and looks kind of devilish.

She's bugging me more and more and is getting in the way of my enjoying the show.

I couldn't agree more. Marissa looks horrible, and needs to start dancing herself! The horrible dresses she wears, she is too fat to be pored into them.
