Does anyone remember the episode where this lady's husband in earlier years had a disease that caused him to be bed bound and helpless and ended up dying, his mother had it and then this lady had 3 sons and two of them ended up with the same disease and she took care of them for many years and then ended up shooting them in the head in the nursing home after they had told her earlier they didn't want to suffer anymore? I'm trying to find out the disease they had!! I think a friend of a friend actually might have this disease. He's been in the hospital for over a year and doctors where we live haven't been able to diagnose him yet but he's got the same symptoms that those boys had and I think this guy might have the same thing!! If anyone knows what that disease was, please reply!!!
Thanks~

The lady who shot her sons was Carol Carr. The disease is called Huntington's Disease. Huntington's runs strongly in families and it is inherited dominantly, so the offspring of someone with this diease will have a 50% risk of suffering from it.

You are right. The Carol Carr episode is one of the many must see classic Snapped episodes. I was so fascinated I did a websearch and learned all about Huntingtons Disease. INCREDIBLE and FASCINATING.

That is the saddest episode I ever saw of the series. I cry through it every time.

Lori San Giacomo narrated the earlier episodes.

That was Carol Carr she was the mom who shot her two sons in the nursing home.
The story is about how her husband and his mom had the hereditary Huntingtons Disease and her husband was confined to the nursing home for years then passed away then her oldest two boys got it and were also eventually confined to the nursing home. she did not want them to suffer and she shot them. Then when she got out of prison her youngest son was developing the same hereditary disease and she was not allowed to take care of him due to the mandated court rulings in the case.
It was the saddest episode I have ever seen sad.gif

This episode is very emotional for me. My grandmother has huntington's disease. So the gene runs in my family. You have no idea how horrible it is to watch someone with it. Thankfully my grandmother got it later in life and had my grandfather and the rest of my family to take care of her. She's so childlike now, but she doesn't seem to be too aware of what's happening to her. She can't walk, she can't go to the bathroom, she wears a diaper, she can't feed herself, she can't communicate except a few slurred words which are usually names of people, and its all because the body is progressively shutting down on her. I haven't gotten tested and I don't plan to, because I don't want to know if I have it or not. I'm thankful they aired this story and shed more light on this horrible disease and the devastating effects it can have on family members.

The name of the disease that Carol Carr shot her two sons in order to relieve their suffering is Huntintong's Disease. It was originally called Huntington's Chorea as chorea is the greek word for dance. One of the disease's symptom's is uncontrollable movements which they called dance.

My husband passed away in 1998 from the disease, my two grown daughters now have the disease and I have 5 grandchildren who are in line for the disease. The chances of an offspring getting the disease if a parent has it is 5percent. The only way to be tested for the disease is a DNA test. When my husband and I were married we were not aware of this disease in his family as no one else in the family had ever been tested or had the symptoms as badly as he did. There is still no known treatment or cure for this horrible disease. I pray everyday that I will be able to take care of my daughters when they become disabled. It is a slow and progressive disease and can take anywhere from 10 to 20 years before death. My husband was 48 when he died after spending years in a nursing home. Due to the nature of this disease and having to sit by and be able to do nothing as your loved ones suffer, I'm now disabled due to crippling depression and am on a fixed income.

There are approximately 150,000 people who have this disease and another 300,000 who are in line for it. Because it is such a rare disease not much attention is paid to it and very little research is done on treatments.

This is by far the saddest episode of Snapped that i've ever seen. I couldn't imagine the pain and horror that Carol must of gone through. I cry each and everytime I watch it.

This is one of the unique episodes of Snapped. No money is involved. No wives cheating on their husbands (or vice versa). No scandel at all. Very sad episode. And they ended it by saying how her other son was starting to show signs of having the disease. So so sad.

This is one of my least favorite episodes. Carol Carr spent many years watching this disease tear her family apart. She struggled with that final & fatal decision to end her son's suffering.
