Does anyone know exactly how they calculate the contestants' weight loss scores? I cannot find this information on the website. I took Pinky's info from the weigh in on last night show, and tried to calculate how they came up with her score and could not figure it out. If anyone knows, I would appreciate it. Thank you. You can email me as well.

They take the dance score average and add it to the percentage of body weight lost. So it's not the judges dance scores added together, but averaged. It's not how many pounds they lost, but the percentage of their body weight lost. Add that together and you get their final score.

It's a numbers game. You've got to basically lose weight and score high. It's best to lose the weight because the judges giving out 8's and 9's to Ruben made no sense. I thought he was boring and sloppy.

Yes, I know about the dance score part, but when I calculated Pinky's loss for the week, with her weight last week, it did not match what they had. When I did it with her starting weight...it did not match either, and I am very good at math, so something is not clearly spelled out by the program. Here are the numbers as of the 7/20/09 show:

Pinky's original weight: 186.9
Total weight lost: 8.4

Week 3 weigh in: 179.9

Week 4 weigh in: 178.5

Loss between week 3 and 4: 1.4

Weight loss score according to their calcualtions: .78

Now, my calculations: 178.5/186.9 = .995 with a percentage weight loss overall 4.5% of her beginning weight.

Between week 3 and 4, she lost 1.4 lbs. So...

178.5/179.9 = .992, with an overall all drop of about 1% from last week.

So, none of these numbers match the .78 they came up with. Doesn't make sense. So, somehow they are calculating the numbers differently than standard calculations to determine percentages....And THAT is my question. What mathematical formula are they using to calculate the weight loss score.

You're using the wrong numbers. Pinky lost 1.4 pounds between weeks 3 and 4. That 1.4 pounds is 78% of her body weight in week three (179.9 pounds):

1.4/179.9 = 0.00778, which rounds up to 0.0078 or 78%.

THANK YOU!!! Okay, THAT explains it...I figured it was just another way of calculating I was not seeing. But I wonder why they do it that way... It is much more accurate to divide current weight by previous weight... I'd like to know their logic for doing it that way...

For example: If I weigh in at 100 lbs in week 3, and lose 1 lb. so am 99 lbs in week 4. So, 99/100 = .99, indicating I have lost 1% of my total body weight in a week.

Therefore, Pinky lost about 1% of her body fat in a week according to the formula of

179.9 (weight in week 3)/ 178.5 (weight in week 4) = .992

Makes no sense why they are not doing it according to standard math for calculating percentages...Very odd...

As long as they are doing it the same for all the contestants it is fair.
