Full Version: Pinky & dangerous caloric restriction

I heard Pinky say a couple of weeks back that she was cutting her calories to 900. That could explain why she's having such low weight loss numbers. I would hope the nutritionist picked up on what she said and is at least having her at 1,500 calories. At 900 calories her body goes into famine mode and holds onto it's reserves, trying hard not to burn fat. I hope things go well for her. I also hope someone gets this email and verifies that her caloric intake is acceptable. I worry about these people sometimes.

Each of us is different, with body issues not always changing fast enough for this kind of show. For me, it took a little while to kick in, but how I dealt with sugar was the whole story. I had a lot of protein, little starch, and unlimited veggies, but protein and increased chromium key.

Pinky has a couple of fruit, which may undercut the protein. She may also have a slight thyroid problem that defies testing (like I did), when even iodine or feeding the thyroid might help.

She's a wonderful dancer and deserves an even shot at this opportunity.

I do wish they would test Pinky for food allergies. My youngest daughter had a rough time loosing weight despite eating healthy and exercising regularly. After a full round of tests, we were all surprised to find out just how severe her food allergies were and within just a few months she had lost all the excess weight and felt great even started running again.

Any nutritionist with a brain would say the same thing as the original poster - 900 calories is not enough for someone working out several times a day plus dancing. Her body will go into survival mode and her metabolism will slow down. That's why on The Biggest Loser the contestants are constantly being corrected for not eating enough.
